Dear Students,

Welcome to the EEE 421 Power Electronics Laboratory. Over this semester, we will be transitioning from theoretical models to hands-on hardware testing, focusing on both uncontrolled rectifiers and thyristor-based power conversion systems.

Please read the following mandatory requirements carefully before our first session:

1. Mandatory Safety Forms: Working safely with mains voltage and power electronics is our absolute highest priority. During the first lab session, you will be required to review and sign the Laboratory Safety Guidelines form. You will not be permitted to handle the equipment without a signed form on file.

2. Safety Regulation Quiz: To ensure everyone is familiar with the necessary protocols, an online safety assessment quiz will be held during the first week. Details and access links will be provided in the lab.

3. Preliminary Work (Pre-Labs): As outlined in the laboratory policy, you must prepare your preliminary work before arriving. This includes your MATLAB/Simulink print-outs and soft copies. Preliminary work accounts for 25% of your final lab grade. Groups arriving without completed pre-labs will not be allowed to conduct the experiment.

4. Attendance & Reporting: All experiments are mandatory. Missing more than 20% of the laboratory sessions without a legitimate excuse will result in an FF grade. Remember that while you will perform the experiments in groups, each student is strictly required to submit their own individual lab report.

Please come prepared with your laboratory sheets and pre-lab calculations ready.

Please review the following essential guidelines and updates regarding the EEE247 laboratory sessions for the Fall 2026 semester:

Commencement of Lab Sessions: The EEE247 laboratory will officially begin next week on Monday, October 5, 2026. The first session will be held from 09:00 to 10:30 in BİM DERSLİK-2.

Laboratory Group Assignments: The finalized group lists are provided in the attached document. Please review the lists carefully to confirm your designated session and check your exemption status if applicable. Students not listed in any group should verify their names on the exemption roster.

Newly Updated Interactive Labsheets: This year, we have completely overhauled our laboratory materials! We have introduced a newly updated, interactive, and gamified labsheet designed to make learning MATLAB and C++ more engaging and enjoyable. You are expected to download and review this new labsheet prior to attending your session.

Pre-Laboratory Preparation: Before arriving at the laboratory, it is mandatory to read the relevant experiment in the updated labsheet and watch the corresponding experiment video.

Required Materials: Ensure you come to the laboratory fully prepared with all necessary materials, including your notebook and the printed/digital labsheet.

Attendance Policy: An 80% attendance rate is strictly required to successfully pass this laboratory course. Due to the limited capacity of the PC lab (45 seats), you must attend only your officially assigned group. Attending a different session is strictly prohibited; failure to attend your designated hour will result in an absence.

Assessment and Grading: Your laboratory performance will be evaluated through 4 quizzes and a final laboratory exam. Each quiz will contribute 15% to your final grade, and the final exam will account for 40%.
